dgermano
We are now in the final weeks of  the release  of the first major update of the Gazetteer in three years. This new version will have much more rapid searching, display of Tibetan script and Devangari script as well as Chinese characters, improved interface, and a lot of improvements in the technology that will allow us from the fall of 2006 to finally begin to put all of our content into it. In addition, it will have administrative units for contemporary Nepal, as well as add all contemporary administrative units for Tibetan areas of Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu and Yunan, in addition to the earlier data for the Tibet Autonomous Region. Note you have to follow the instructions on THDL to see the new scripts for Tibetan, Nepali and Chinese if they don't appear automatically. As soon as it is released, we will update the blog...

After many years of effort, our building of Tibetan Language Learning Resources is finally bearing fruit. This summer we will be finishing up various loose ends, but please check them out in the meantime. The Reader of Literary Tibetan and Advanced Colloquial in particular represent exciting new approaches to the study of Tibetan.

THDL A New Era! [Mar. 30th, 2005|03:03 pm]

In 2005, THDL is turning the corner from an initial startup period (2000-2005) to enter what we conceive of as our second period  of development (2005-2009). The first period begin without funding, technology, or partnerships, and was frankly quite stressfull and often uncertain.  The good news, however, is that we survived!  With a new four year grant from the US Department of Education, we can now build upon these achivements to focus much more on content and end users. During the summer of 2005 we will be putting in place a four year plan focusing on integration, huge bodies of content, and usability issues. We will also be opening THDL much more to direct input from scholars in very granular ways - studies of a single word, a single place, and so forth.
