Spotlight

The Spotlight draws attention to new resources within THDL, whether new projects, or new forms of old projects. The current Spotlight was registered as of November 13, 2003 – please feel free to contact us at thdl@virginia.edu if the Spotlight seems out of date at any point!

See the new project on Sera Monastery under the direction of José Ignacio Cabezón. This site has a powerful interactive multimedia map of Sera, and multiple essays on the history and contemporary situation of Sera.

Our Gazetteer is now open for use. You can search all Tibetan administrative regions in China, and then see the output on a map. In addition, counties are linked to Chinese census data from 1990.

For those knowing Tibetan and interested in Buddhist scripture, we have released the long awaited "Master Catalog" of The Collected Tantras of the Ancients (rnying ma rgyud 'bum). Although still requiring further development, it provides a doxographically-based guide to records collated from all the individual editions.

We are proud to announce our first coherent view of the Rich Historical Tibetan Dictionary. After several years of prototyping with difficult-to-understand public interfaces, we now have an attractive and well-organized interface. The dictionary has over 100,000 entries courtesy of the guest inclusion of the Rangjung Yeshe Tibetan-English Dictionary, but we are only just now beginning to make full lexical entries under the leadership of Steven Weinberger, a full-time employee of the project.

Come back to Spotlight to see new features as they come online.
