Timelines & Periods
Welcome to the Timelines & Periods section of THDL's Reference domain. This section is in its initial stages, so we particularly encourage interested contributors to contact us at thdlreference@virginia.edu. We are soliciting timelines of any and all type that are relevant to Tibet and the Himalayas, including links to already-published resources. Our long-term goal is to build a collaborative and sophisticated timeline, and a variety of annotated periodizations of Tibetan and Himalayan history, but this is currently still in the planning stages. At present the timelnes and periodization schemes are bound together.
Timelines & Periods schemes
THDL offers:
- a provisional periodization scheme for the history of Central Tibet (courtesy of Bryan J. Cuevas)
- a rough general timeline of Tibetan History (courtesy of Daniel Martin)
- a general timeline of Tibetan Medical History (courtesy of Frances Garrett)
Asian Studies Online (director Dr. T. Matthew Ciolek; published by Australian National University) provides an annotated year-by-year timeline of major events involving digital technology in Asian Studies. The chronological list begins in 1944, but is more detailed from 1989 onwards. At the beginning of each year's entries, brief citations of major global developments in technology are provided for context. At the time of this review there were 344 entries in total, each with short 1-4 sentence annotation. (http://coombs.anu.edu.au/asian-studies-timeline.html)
Event Typologies
It is important in recording events to "type" them so that one can see patterns, or view only certain types of events in relationship with each other. View the current typology scheme for events.
Please see the Manual and look at the events type section to see its current form.
