Introduction to Tibetan Religious and Philosophical Doxographiess
Doxographies - literally "writing the view" - signifies in Buddhist traditions the hierarchical ranking of different systems of thought and practice. This includes the tradition of speaking of different "vehicles" attributed to the intention of Buddhas to provide different systems for different types of people, and exegetical traditions initiated and articulated by historical individuals over time. There is a huge body of Indian and Tibetan literature that is devoted to articulating the characteristic features of these systems, as well as artiuclating their hierarchical interrelationships with each other.
