Thangka Three.jpg [3/4]
Title: Diagnosis - Thangka Three
Source: Thangkas 005.jpg
Caption: This thangka concerns the methods of diagnosis outlined in the Root Tantra. The tree divided into three main trunks concerned with different methods of diagnosis. These three techniques are, from left to right, visual observation, the use of pulsology (reading the pulse), and inquiry.
Visual observation breaks into two branches: examining samples of urine (top) and the condition of the patient's tongue (bottom.) The next trunk, pulsology, is a subtle technique used to identify humoral imbalance by way of the pulse. The final trunk, inquiry, is divided into three separate branches, which illustrate the effects of each humor on diet and conduct. As with the other tree diagrams, the blue leaves represent rlung, the yellow mkhris-pa and the white bad-kan.
