TK 36 - Detail (12).jpg [13/20] Title: Detail of Medical Instruments (XII) - Thangka Thirty-Six Caption: The top instrument in this panel is a catheter, "which is like the middle part of a wheat-stalk" (Bhagwan Dash, 14) and is used for removing urine from an obstructed bladder. Jingfeng curiously describes the instrument as a "magical stick for a catheterization". The second instrument is also used for cauterization, but in this case its purpose is to cauterize teeth which have either decayed or become infested with worms.
