Thangka Thirty-Five.jpg [3/3]
Title: Classification of Drugs II - Thankga Thirty-Five
Source: Thangkas 024.jpg
Caption: This painting follows the previous thangka (tk 32) in the series devoted to the classification of medication for disorders. In this case, medicines for disorders of cold are depicted. As the caption at the top indicates, the herbs start at onion and garlic (top left) and end with Himalayan rhubarb (bottom right.)
After the onion and garlic panel, the next inscription identifies medicines for treatment of bad-kan (phlegm) disorders of cold. These medicines include Pomegranate (first), Black Pepper (second), medicinal ginger (fourth), cardamom (seventh), and cinnamon (eighth.)
The three medicines shown in the middle of the third panel are for disorders of rlung (the humour equivalent to wind.) From left to right these bowls hold nutmeg, molasses, and various bones. There are also classes of medications depicted in this thangka for the treatment of diarrhea as well as substances to induce vomiting (emetics.)
