Using the texts

The typed in texts (unless explicitly stated otherwise for a given text) are open to anyone's use in terms of copying for personal uses, or distribution over the Web or other digital forms in modified or original forms. We only require that any public use of them states clearly in the beginning the source of the input text, and the agent(s) involved in their original input, as well as a clear statement of any modifications. This is essential to credit the original work, as well as inform readers of the history of the edition. However, any publically printed version of the typed in texts (again, unless explicitly stated otherwise for a given text), can only be done with the written permission of the original inputters of the text.

Traditionally in Tibetan Buddhism, many texts require the appropriate empowerment prior to one studying it. The contemporary Tibetan lineage holders of the tradition fully adhere to this tradition, and request that students first obtain the appropriate empowerment. For example, with the Guhyagarbha commentaries, the appropriate empowerment is the bka' ma sgyu 'phrul empowerment. However, the lineage holders believe that "While the oral transmission must be restricted, the scriptural transmission must be spread" so that texts are available to those who need them. "Oral transmission" signifies in this context teaching and studying the texts. We urge everyone to treat the intentions of the authors and lineage holders of these texts with respect.
