Shechen Monastery Nyingma Text Input Project

Shechen Monastery (zhe chen) was founded in 1735 in the province of Kham, or Eastern Tibet, and has a vibrant branch in exile founded by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (1910-1991) in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. Under the guidance of Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche and Matthieu Ricard, it has become a major text input center for the scriptures of the Nyingma project. Read more about the project

The present site is devoted to providing free access to these e-versions of classic Nyingma literature. Each text is provided at present in the multiple forms to suit users (learn more). Texts are provided to the public for use as they wish, but we request that reproductions are clearly credited to Shechen Monastery. Shechen Monastery would appreciate first being contacted if you are interested in creating print publications from these e-texts. Finally, some of these texts require initiations before reading, and we request people to respect this requirement (learn more)

Our objective is to solicit scholarly assistance in marking these texts up to insert the outlined sections (sa bcad), mark citations, format verse and so forth. We are now working on the guidelines for doing XML markup of such literature using free tools and urge interested contributors to contact us (thdl@virginia.edu). If you contact us before you start working, you can avoid working on texts already being done by others, plus make sure your work is in a format others can use. We also request you contact us if you sight any errors in the e-versions of the text so we can correct them for everyone.
