THDL Geography Collection

Spanning much of the European and Asian continents, the geographic focus of this library is situated across a vast expanse between the great cultural poles of India and China. The Tibetan regions of the People's Republic of China share borders with India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Burma, and lie at an average altitude of over 4,000 meters above sea level. The Tibetan region is Asia's principal watershed and the origin of many of Asia's major river systems.

The Tibetan and Himalayan Geography Collections, to be developed intensively over the next several years, is now exhibited primarily in the Environmental and Cultural Geography Collections of the Library, which organize resources drawn from throughout the library according to region. We are interested in pursuing projects that focus on humanist aspects of geography and the history of cartography in Tibet, as well as projects on all other aspects of the geography of this region.
