3-D Terrain Model of Tibetan Plateau

This is a "VRML" (Virtual Reality Markup Language) model of the Tibetan Plateau, created from satellite-derived elevation data. See the very bottom of this page for an explanation of how to use the model.

Himalayas to Lhasa: In order to experience a simulated travel experience, click on the right arrow at the bottom of the model, beside the word "view". This will allow you to visually travel through the Himalayas from the south though Lake Yamdrok (yar 'brog gyu mtsho) to the city of Lhasa marked by the red sphere. This model gives you a sense of the mountainous nature of Tibet. Click on the red sphere to view an interactive map of Lhasa, complete with links to other THDL web pages as well as other interactive maps and models
