Researched and prepared by:

The Pre-Buddhist section of the Tibet Historical GIS focuses on locating ancient sites associated with the early development of Tibetan civilization. These data are derived from extended field trips in the north and west of the Tibetan Plateau -- the regions of Ngari (mnga 'ris) and Jangtang (byang thang). We have georeferenced over 500 ancient archaeological sites, including fortresses, settlements, tombs, stelae and rock art (pictographs, petroglyphs, monoliths).
