This project presents demographic data drawn from a Tibetan administrative document entitled "Earth-Dog Year [1958] Household Contract Being a Census [of Land and People] in the Nine Divisions of Kyirong District" (Sa-khyi-lo'i sKyid-grong rdzong rgya-dgu'i sgo-khra them-gan). Government landholdings in Kyirong District were sub-divided into eight smaller geographic units. Every third year the District Commissioner ordered a census of government taxpayers which was carried out at the village level by local representatives. Accordingly, the local representatives would call heads of households in succession to his home where he would record the names and ages of all household members. The raw data was then collated at district headquarters by the secretary of the District Commissioner.
